Siegfried was the hero of earl and medieval German myths.

Background

The epic of Siegfried includes the slaying of the dragon Fafnir, his marriage to Gudrin, and his love and betrayal of Brunhilde. The myth includes the tale of the Nibelung, a race of subterranean dwarfs whose hoard of riches and magic ring were taken from them by Siegfried. Among composer Richard Wagner's most famous works is The Ring of Nibelungs, a set of four operas: Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegried, and Gotterdammerung.[1]
