- Note: This is intended to be a complete database listing all changes and is a very long read. Between Day 1 Demo and the Release VersionsEdit
- Different title screen. The text is fully animated starting with Gabriel one letter at a time, followed by Knight across the screen one letter at a time.
- The title menu only has intro, play, an quite. No restore button.
- The arrow cursor on the title screen is blood red (its gold on floppy version, and lavender on the CD-rom).
- Intro cutscene is somewhat longer, and contains some of the full animation that is in the CD-rom but cut from the Floppy version. It does not lead into credits, and ends in a somewhat sped up version of Gabrile waking up.
- There of some screen descriptions which have placeholder messages.
- Gabriel's Studio/Bedroom is not available in the demo.
- While several locations are shown on the map they are unavailable in the day 1 playable demo. Including Grandma Knight's house, Dixieland Drug Store, St. Louis Cathedral, and Napoleon House.
- Includes puzzles up to the crime scene, and end of the day. Then advertises future adventures Gabriel will be able to experience.
- The demo has a cool looking skull for the loading/wait cursor graphic on start up. There is no wait cursor on start up in the later versions but the entire logo splash screen instead.
- The main wait/load cursor in the game is a gold and blue shield with a red "G" in the center of it. In the Released versions the wait cursor is a steel colored shield emblazoned with GK, with a black outline around it.
- The demo does not have the Sierra Logo splash screen at start and instead loads to animated title screen.
- Day 1 starts with different quote, and includes a quote by W. B. Yeats.
- The german-english dictionary is not in the demo.
- The demo has 25 points total to collect, and this is reflected in the menu point list (which starts out as 0 of 25). In the full releases its 0 out of 342.
- There is a different points sound (a sort of drum like clunk sound).
- The menu itself is different, with a snake on left side and female line/jaguar on the right. The released game floppy has a male lion the left side, and a snake on the right (a very different snake image). The CD release has completely new hires art of the lion and the snake. Interesting thing in released games is that the animal eyes can glow red depending on where you hover cursor over the menu. The order and location of the icons is different. The section with the inventory pouch, and tape recorder is located closer to the other icons sets without the brick-like divider in between.
- The right click cycling through the icons is also in different order.
- The walk cursor and menu icon is different.
- The tape recorder button on the menu is different. And does not have the button like appearance of the released game instead just being pouch on a black background like the rest of the menu items.
- The graphic for the pouch looks the same, but is not a 'button' like in the release but just on black background like the rest of the icons.
- Hovering over the menu buttons makes only the main icon itself turn green, while release games =the 'buttons' turn red and gold.
- The menu layout of the settings menu is very different.
- The restart button has a unique message ("You want to relive the NIGHTMARE from the beginning?") and two buttons asks do you want to restart: 'Yes, restart game' or 'No, now that you mention it". The released game has a simple "Restart" and an arrow circling icon for restart, and "Play" button to just continue.
- The 'quit button' is at the bottom (it is moved to the top in release versions). It similarly has message; "Bugging out on me, are you?" with choices "Yup, you're on your own, pal." and "Nah, I'll stay." The release versions has simple "Quit" and options of "Quit" and "Play".
- The Sierra icon in the settings menu has "Demo Info", "How to Play", "Days 2-10", and "GK Team".
- When climbing the ladder there is a joke about looking down Grace's shirt, this appears in the released versions, but the demo has an additional comment from Gabriel which does not appear in the released games: "You're no fun at all."
- There is no music played on the street maps.
- The sign to the "Greater New Orleans" area is not on the map, instead there is simply the message: "Greater New Orleans Area Map".
- There is no Jackson Square Overlook location and no Binoculars icon (and the area is inaccessible anyways).
- There are no police standing around the police station, just two at the desks (in release there are two cops one black and one white standing around, and one walks off, and the other leans against the wall. The random cops walks in and does things like walk up to the female cop's desk, or over to Frick. These include a, white male cop, and black female cop, who comes in and circles the room).
- The police radio is digital speech like in the CD-Rom, rather than text like the floppy.
- No blood trail near the body at the crime scene (as in the release version.)
- As there is no visit to grandmother's house, and no notebook, there is no way to take a sketch of the veve at the crime scene in the demo.
- While you can get permission to speak to Mosely in his office from Frick, you can't actually do it in the day 1 demo.
- Much simpler looking save and load screen interfaces than in the released versions (orange text on black background and grey border). This simple design also appears for help and any other text pop up boxes that appear. Character text still appears at the bottom of the screen however.
- Settings menu as a 'Talk" but pushing it says "*** You are not playing a cd!".
- The icons on the map are the same or similar to the versions on the Floppy, rather than the versions that ended up in the CD-Rom (the latter which were higher res)
- The Recorder is not available for the day 1 demo.
- In the released versions the area that you have left is has an outline around it, in the demo there is no outline.
- The book store is largely the same as the artwork from the released game, but there is some differences with the front windows, particularly its more pixelated and diagonal, while hte released artwork is more solid bar. This has to do with the fact animation for the staring man is placed behind the window, in the final game.
- Although Bruno can appear on Day 1 in the full game randomly or if you wait long enough. He isn't accessible in the demo (though his animation graphics are in the game's files).
Between Original Floppy and CD-Rom versionsEdit
- CD-Rom added hi-res interface menus, inventory icons, and interrogation portraits.
- Different title screens in the floppy and CD-ROM versions. The Sierra logo is hi-res in the cd-rom as is the title screen.
- The graphic novel cutscenes are done with stills in the floppy version. The CD-Rom uses full animation for some of the sequences intersperced with semi-animated comic strips.
- CD-rom added a few cutscenes including enhanced versions of the dreams, and a close-up of Gabriel starting his bike in front of the bookshop (appears to be a blue/green screen actor filmed). The original had instead more comic-book style single frame cutscenes, and there was a full background of the front of the shop, showing Gabriel getting on his bike.
- The credits in the intro are blood red text over black background.
- The credits in the cd-rom are hi-res red text over a red background with hires medieval artwork, cycled in the background.
- Hires elements added to the game and overlaying the VGA backgrounds such as certain items that can be picked up or interacted with. Such as the tweezers, magnifying glass, green ashtray, the coats on the rack, parts of the front door, and grace's paintset in the bookshop.
- All inventory items and menus are in hires graphics in the enhanced version.
- Hires images to represent locations on the New Orleans maps.
- Use of speech and recorded music in sections.
- The cd-rom came in an origami box, the floppy came in a traditional Sierra big box in sleeve.
- The street maps have sound of traffic and other city life.
- The icon for the crime scene on the map is a splatter of blood in the floppy version (and demo), and a crime scene tape in the CD-Rom.
- The CD-rom has both hires vesa mode, and a standard VGA drivers mode.
Between originals and 20th Anniversary EditionEdit
- 20th Anniversary has a simplified user interface, and built in hint system.
- 20th Anniversary Edition is a bit more linear than the original, with certain areas closed off on certain days/chapters, and items moved to a different location, to reduce the number of locations visited. The original offered some open ended aspects, and certain things could be solved on different days, which would influence when other events may take place during the week.
- There are 362 points rather than 342.
- Double clicking on a screen causes Gabriel to teleport to that part of the screen.
- Gabriel isn't given a cassette recorder in the beginning as in the original, to record all conversations. Instead he records his thoughts and summarizes each event and conversation in Harrison's journal/sketchbook, which is picked up in a box in the store.
- Many general background animations have been removed or not included in the 20th Anniversary edition (many of these things include 'things to try' as discussed in the Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers Hint Book).
- "While none of them are a big deal individually, it also doesn’t take long to notice that most of the incidental details have simply been thrown out. Grace, for instance, no longer has her conservative brown skirt, but has switched to easier to animate jeans. Gabriel can no longer climb the ladder in his bookshop. When the police leave the first crime scene, it’s off-camera. There’s no longer the repairman fiddling with the thermostat in the police station, just a Post-It note saying not to fiddle with it. Gabriel no longer hugs his grandmother when he visits her."
- The game changes/removes much of the original game's art style. It loses a lot of the original game's atmospheric and lighting with most areas being very bright (almost golden). In the original there was a clear difference between some rooms having hot burning reds/fiery oranges, and other screens having cold or misty blues, with very little in between. The original scenes locations often had emotional/psychological symbolism tied to them, as well as tied into the original game's graphic novel theme.
- There are generally quite a bit more things to look at on each screen in the original, and it may depend on what part of the room you are standing in. The remake removes most of these incidental descriptions and limits to just a few items on screen, some of the new descriptions are completely different.
- Some of the changes in the 20th Anniversary Edition are based on some of the situations and solutions in the GK1 novel.
- Different number of peripheral characters or alternate characters in spots. Some characters completely removed, or replaced with non-speaking individuals. At least one character's name changed.
- The remake is not specifically designed for wide-screen monitors. Playing the game in wide-screen resolutions actually cuts off large portions of the game's artwork on the top or bottom of the screen. However playing in standard resolutions lowers the graphic quality and also puts letterboxes on the left and right of the screen. The original game was designed to mimic widescreen letterbox mode, so actually looks somewhat better in widescreen (although a little stretched). The artwork and much of the games interface was designed for native Apple Retina Ipad tablet displays.
- Some of the interactive hotspots are not accessible if played on 1920x1080 (or any modes that crop portions of the screen). The ceiling in the Gedde library for example cannot be looked at, as its cropped off the top of the screen.
- Many of the characters in the remake have lines removed, or modified. In some cases minor characters have had most, if not all lines removed (see officer at Lake Pontchartrain for example). In some cases the characters are removed as well. Many of the details removed included incidental background information about various characters such as Grace, or Gerde, or they have been changed outright such as making Gerde older than she was in the original (likely inspired by the novel's version of her).
- There are currently some graphical glitches in GK3, in pathing, and foreground/background art not properly scripted so that foreground Gabriel appears blocking foreground images when he walks behind them in places (see chair in attic on left side for example).
- The game's simplified 'combine item' interface prevents the player form attempting to combine non-combinable items. Therefore, the game lacks any of the funny messages for attempting to use wrong items on other items.
- The street sounds (as heard in the CD-rom version) are missing from the map.
Between the novel and the gamesEdit
- Obviously as the novel is neither interactive, nor visual adaptation of the game certain elements of the game are included in diagrams placed throughout the text to give some visual clues. Such as images of the veve, the secret messages script, the professor's notes, and the snake tiles where they are applicable in the story.
- The cover of the book depicts Gabriel from GK2 at the desk in Schloss Ritter library trying to write his latest book.
- Most of the character backgrounds are neglected, as Gabriel doesn't lose time to "interrogate" them is in the game. Some lengthy in-game dialogues are abridged to accomodate the reading experience.
- Some character names are altered; see for example Rebecca/Ester or Monty/Stonewall King.
- Some chronologies are also changed. For example in the game Gabriel was orphaned 8 years old, in the novel he was only 1 year old; in the game Gerde Hull is 22, in the novel she is described to be in her mid-30s. 20th anniversary appears to have been modified to reflect the novel description, and her appearance in GK2.
- The unrealistic game mechanic usual in adventure games that allows a character to pick up and carry any number of objects of any size, is rationalized in the novel. For example, after buying Willie Jr., Gabriel ties it on his bike and then hides it under his bed until he needs it. In some cases he realises he needs an item, goes back to the bookshop to retrieve it, and returns.
- Some game screens that are unrealistically empty, in the novel they have more life, as in the case of the St. Louis Cathedral, which is always empty in the game, but the novel describes some people wandering around or praying. There are also a number of periphery background characters described in the novel, that do not appear in any version of the game, see Extras (GK1 Novel)
New Orleans mapsEdit
- In the original GK1 almost every street name in the French Quarter and many landmarks on the outskirts are listed on the map. In the 20th Anniversary Edition, the only places marked are those that can be visited.
- In the 20th anniversary edition the icon for the "Jackson Square Overlook" is placed on the map directly south of the Jackson Square, this is incorrect as there is no building there, rather it is the location of Washington Artillery Park. The actual building where the "overlook" is located is actually southwest (as the icon was located in the original) on top of the Jackson Brewery Company.
St. George's Book Shop/St. George's BooksEdit
- The balcony no longer has the dragon head gargoyle in the 20th Anniversary edition. In the original the dragon head appears to be a nod to St. George's dragon.
- The gargoyle near the desk looks more like a gryphon or a Chinese dragon. In the original gargoyle looked like a European dragon, and seemed to be another nod to St. George (after which the store was named, and which had ties into Gabriel's past).
- The three books have been moved to a single shelf next to each other in a close up shot, instead of in different sections of the bookstore. This also avoids and removes all the associated animations as well.
- A curtain lies between the bookshop and his bedroom. In the original Gabriel and later Mosely have animations showing the curtain being moved. Along with the moved curtain was a 'wooshing sound' of being being moved. In the remake the curtain is already partially open, and characters just walk through the open section (removing some of the extra animation and the related sound).
In the original the room was dark, somewhat goth. With Mardi Gras paraphernalia scattered throughout the room. Mask and beads towards the foreground. Most of these items have been removed from the game and there are fewer things To interact with.
- Gabriel would sit down at his desk and try to type in the original with its own animation, and he mentions having writer's block. He only stands in the new game.
20th Anniversary EditionEdit
- Less cluttered, a bit brighter, and a bit cheerier. Lighter colors all around.
- In the remake Gabriel avoids typing altogether, there is a new line added to explain this.
- The radio in this room in the remake has additional commercials that were not present in the original (though many of them were in the files but unused see GK1 transcript).
- The black shirt has been moved to Gabriel's closet.
- Outside Police Station and Alleyway added to the station in 20th Anniversary Edition.
- In the original there was incidental characters and animation including random officers inside the precinct walking into the lobby and doing various things. On a certain day a repairman could also be seen fixing the thermostat. In the remake there stands one lone officer (other than Frick and Franks) just outside the counter. Gabriel is able to interact with the officer initiating an acknowledging 'hey'.
- Some narrative descriptions were removed from the lobby in the remake such as the seal in the floor, the coat rack, a file cabinet, Frank's desk, lobby bench, etc.
- The remake adds some other descriptions not included in the original; including a portrait of the chief of police, a different description for the bulletin board.
- The cage over the thermostat is not in the remake, a post-it is above it instead, a trash can instead of a umbrella stand (different discrption).
- Completely redrawn from a different angle.
- In the original Jackson Square is made up of four separate screens, and each one has its own musicians three bands (2 with four members (jazz band, and Cajun band and ), and 1 with three: blues band) and a drummer. There are also four different visitors including a woman, a man, a boy, and a older woman. Plus the mime that interacts with the various characters.
- In the remake the square is one giant connected area that scrolls in real time. The Woman and Buff Dude remain, however the older woman and the boy have been removed (at least in day 1), and one of the bands has been removed, one band moved near the drummer, short one member (Jazz Band), and another band short a few members (only 2 members; Cajun Band).
- The Jazz Band can be talked to in the 20th Anniversary version, they can be asked to play the blues version of the music.
Jackson Square OverlookEdit
- This was a dark misty location in the original.
- It's a bright sunny, though still misty area in the remake.
- The magnifying glass, and tweezer puzzle is a bit expanded with a close up of the ground, and a visual scan of the the foot and snake prints until the scale is discovered.
- In the original three officers were shown doing various things around the crime sceene, taking pictures of the body, taking notes, etc. The body is covered in a tarp, and then uncovered to show Gabriel. One of the officers searched in the grass near the lake. One cars drives away with the two white officers, and later the coroner and the last officer carry it away to the ambulance, after Malia passed by. Mosely and the black officer drive away in the last squad car.
- In the remake there is but a lone officer standing around filling out some note book, and body is carried away after Gedde's appearance by the Coroner and the lone cop. The body is always uncovered throughout. Strangely the officer looks dark-skinned in the game itself, and white in the cutscenes.
- The location of the body and the veve diagram have been switched in relation to each other. This also affects the location of the lone officer (Mosely's assistant).
- Strangely the officer in the remake appears to be a black man in the game scenes, but a white man in the cutscenes. Unless there was another officer inside the Coroner van who came out to carry the body away.
- Most of the Uniformed Officer's lines have been removed in the remake. Instead he only says one sentence during the graphic novel cutscene "we are about ready to wrap everything up".

- In the original the artwork is cold, wet, misty, dark, and almost rotten feel to the scenery. Foreshadowing the dangers contained inside.
- In the remake the scene is lit brightly, very clean, shows off the Gedde's luxurious life style and financial success.
- The layout of the cemetery is completely changed forming a sort of 'triangle' of connecting screens. In the original it was three scrolling connected screens made from long painted background.
- A puzzle has been added to the Wright Family Tomb involving a vase, and a squirrel, and some hidden money.
- Gabriel is blocked from visiting his family tomb until he talks to Granny about it, on Day 4.
- The architecture of the lecture hall is different. WIth the exist on stage rather off the left of seats. There is no bulletin board. The way to Hartridge's office is locked.
- Hartridge remains on stage in the lecture hall throughout the day of initially meeting him.
- By the time you get to visit Hartridge's office, he is dead.
Schloss Ritter has been completely altered, and looks closer to its appearance in GK2. The 'strange weather' plot point has been removed (and all lines related to it), and the weather is normal German weather for June.
- In the original and GK2 Gabriel has ginger hair. But in GK1 specifically he has perhaps blond highlights at the tips. His hair is long at the top, but fairly short in the back, some strands are pointy, while others droop and flop every witch way. This is shown to great detail in several cutscenes throughout the game, and in playable sprite. In contrast he slicks it back when he tries to impersonate a priest. GK2 does away with this look giving him long shoulder length ginger hair.
- Gabriel's design appears closer to Gabriel Knight 3 in design. Blonde hair, white tee-shirt, and blue jeans. Still wears trench coat, when out of the bookshop. The cutscenes have been redrawn to incorporate the 'new' look.
- Grace wears a skirt.
- Grace was born in Japan.
- Grace was born in New Hampshire.
- Grace wears jeans rather than the skirt.
- Grace apparently born in New York.
Rebecca Knight She calls Gabriel through Grace on first day. Gabriel visits her house on the first day, picks up notebook from her.
She calls Gabriel through Grace on first day. She leaves a box of his things at the bookstore for him to rummage through, including the notebook.
Her name is Ester Wright. The reason she called Gabriel is explained in the novel: she wanted to give old things to the charity sale.
Gerde is said to be about 22 years old. She worked for Wolfgang for the last four years, when she was eighteen. She looks to be young.
All references to her being eighteen or young have been removed or modified. Instead she is described as 'fresh-faced', and it doesn't specify the age she was when she started working for Wolfgang, but maintains that she has worked for him for four years. She appears to be older, perhaps to better fit with her appearance in GK2, and her descriptions in the novels.
Gabriel estimates that Gerde is about 35 years old, older than her appearance in the game.
- Gunter is portrayed much younger than his appearance in the original. Where as he was grey haired with a full beard in the original, he has brown hair stubbly beard in the remake. The angle of his face has been changed as well. Other bits of the scene have been modified as well. There is no longer a scene of his face, and a snake wrapping itself around Gunter's throat (the scene has been shifted slightly and extended, and now happens later, and focuses directly on his throat and the snake, and then a scene showing him physically choking).
Changes by DayEdit
Note: This assumes puzzles are solved on the earliest day possible in each game.
- Grace gives Gabriel new cassette recorder he had ordered to record conversations, and automatically given directions to the Voodoo Museum and Dixieland Drug Store (he can't leave the shop until the introduction conversation ends). As such he already knows the locations when he leaves the shop.
- Gabriel learns of several locations to research for his next book. He is able to travel to St. George's Book Shop, Dixieland Drug Store, Historical Voodoo Museum, Napolean House, Jackson Square, Jackson Square Overlook and St. Louis Cathedral. Grandmother Knight's House and Police Station are added after talking to Grace.
- Bruno shows up to ask for the picture early in the morning, if Gabriel returns to the shop.
- Gabriel encounters the The Girl volunteer at the Historical Voodoo Museum, who tells him to see Dr. John the following day.
- This is the first day Gabriel can talk to Stonewall King, and can learn about Sam and Voodoo.
- Gabriel visits his Grandmother to pick up some of his father's things, in particular a sketchbook in the attic. She tells him about St. Louis Cemetery #1. The Drei Drachen clock puzzle can be solved on this day as well to learn about Heinz Ritter, and the Ritter name.
- Gabriel can visit the police station. He'll see an assortment of police officers doing things around the office. About three or four different random ones appear one a black man (appears to be Tony, using the same sprite.) standing by the copy machine (or by the door to Mosely's office), who walks away after a while. Another a white officer with red hair who walks in and appears to chat with the man standing near the copy machine/office door (then walks away), another that walks in and walks around Fricks desk before leaving, and a fourth a brunette female, who comes in organizes some papers on and near Frick's desk. Although they are not just stuck to those movements, and may randomly come in and do other things in the room as well (such as the brunette female officer walking over to the copy machine and appear to 'use' it or at least look at it). The Beignet Vendor can also show up and initiate an event as well.
- Gabriel visits Dixie Land Drugstore and learns about Cabrit sans cors, St. John's Eve, and free lagniappe.
- Gabriel can enter the Confessional is empty at first, but a Priest opens up the screen and begins to talk to player (this can be done on most days).
- Gabriel can enter the cathedral into a small nook/ready room and get a black shirt and priest's collar.
- The body is covered by the time Mosely shows it to him (there are animations of Mosely uncovering the body to show it to Gabriel), and its taken away by the Coroner on-screen after Malia stops by the crime scene (Malia scene is done in comic style cutscene, before fading back to the main screen).
Gabriel Knight 1 Hint BookEdit
The order of events as per the official hintbook:
- Gets information from Bookshop.
- Heads to Grandma's House. Solves clock puzzle, asks Granny about as everything he can.
- Head's to the police station.
- Heads to Jackson Square.
- Heads to Lake Ponchetrain.
- Heads to Dixieland Drug Store.
- Heads to the Napolean House.
- Heads to St. Louise Cathedral.
- Heads to Jackson Square Overlook.
- Heads to the Historical Voodoo Museum.
- Returns to Bookshop, asks about Malia Gedde. Day ends.
- In the remake there is the extra step to getting the locations of the drug store and museum. The introductory conversation makes a slight detour (an extra couple of lines have been added), and ends before she gives him any directions (she doesn't give him a tape recorder in the remake), Grace decides not to help him unless he really wants the help. This requires having to open up the interrogation menu and ask about "Voodoo Research" to get the same directions. This means Gabriel can leave the shop before even learning directions to the locations, and they will not be on the map if he does.
- Instead of receiving a tape recorder, Gabriel uses a journal. This is the sketchbook, which has now been moved to a box on the counter in the shop (Sent over by Grandma Knight).
- Gabriel is limited to St. George's Books, Jackson Square, Jackson Square Overlook, and St. Louis Cathedral. Police Station, Dixieland Drug Store and Voodoo Museum are added after talking to Grace. But the Drug Store and Museum are closed until the following day. The Overlook is closed until June 21st for repairs.
- Bruno does not appear.
- Someone occupies the confessional booth, so he is not able to enter. There is no back room (he is not able to enter it until the third day).
- The body is left uncovered throughout the whole time that Mosely shows it to him (there is less animation and fewer individuals on screen the entire time). Malia shows up at the end of the scene, and the body is taken away during the same cutscene, now limited to a couple of 'comic book' type panels with limited animation. Quite a bit of the original conversations are removed in the shortened cutscene, the officer for example who had maybe 4-5 lines is reduced down to one.
- Gabriel leaves the store (Bruno does not appear on this day).
- He first goes to the police station, and talks to Frick.
- Gabriel then travels to Jackson Square, and learns about the crime scene location from a cop's bike.
- Gabriel then travels to the crime scene, and talks to Mosely. Sees Malia for first time.
- Gabriel then visits his grandmother.
- Gabriel rummages through things in attic, find a copy of Heinz Ritter's poetry book (in the attic in the novel rather than the bookstore), gets the notebook. He looks at the clock but doesn't solve its secret (the clock is apparently inside the trunk rather than outside of it).
- Gabriel returns to the bookstore, and has Grace research Malia Gedde.
- Visitors to Jackson Square are randomized with 3-4 various wandering visitors. It is possible to encounter Mother & Child, Jogger, Red-headed woman, an Old Man with can. Or any of the individuals from Day 1 including the Little Boy, Muscle Man Pedestrian, white-shirted woman, and Old Lady.
- The Technical Artist will lose his draft the second time you enter his screen in the park.
- Upon giving the dancer a Lucky Dog, Gabriel has several different options of requests (including Nutcracker Suite, and Saints Going Marching In).
- An Electrician opens up the locked thermostat cage on Day 2, allowing GK to fiddle with the temperature of the police station.

- Malia has been edited, and additional material added. Some material modified. She says she doesn't mind snakes.

- He travels to the police station, and speaks with Mosely. Franks gets the file of the case for him. Gabriel sneaks out some photocopies.

- Gabriel travels to St. Louis Cemetery #1, and discovers the Gedde tomb (but yet does not meet the groundskeeper).
- He travels to the Dixieland Drugstore. He notices a tag on the mask offering it for sale for $100 (a bit different than how he discovered the price in the game versions of the story). He looks at the free bonus item sign, and learns about St. John's Eve, and discusses it with the owner, and shows the murder photo. After the conversation Madame Cazanoux entered the store (in the game versions she shows up shortly after Gabriel enters the store, but before he can talk to anyone). Gabriel asks about her after she left, but is turned away.
- Gabriel visits Jackson Square. He helps Max, by giving a Lucky Dog from George (after writing him a note good for $10 at the bookshop) to a young boy.
- Gabriel goes back to Police Station, and steals Mosely's badge.
- Gabriel tricks the butler into let him see Malia at her house.
- Gabriel returns to the shop, and has Grace research Cazanoux.

- Wolfgang Ritter calls Gabriel for the second time, and leaves his number. Gabriel has to confirm Wolfgang Ritter is Heinz Ritter's brother from Rebecca Knight. Gabriel is finally able to call him, and learn about the Ritter Journal. If Gabriel did not find the secret compartment in the clock (on a previous day) and confirm Wolfgang is Heinz brother, then Gabriel is not yet willing to call him however.
- Lorelei shows up in Jackson Square. The Technical Artist returns. Juggler also returns, as does the Lucky Dog Vendor, and random assorted visitors from previous days.
- Students leave lecture hall and Hartridge heads to his office, where Gabriel talks to him.
- Lorelei appears in Jackson Square on this day, she will run after giving him a fortune, and turn up later initiating a cutscene, where she disappears mysteriously.
- Gabriel talks to Stonewall King, and learns about Sam Singleton. He helps Sam using the oil he received from Willy Walker for buying the mask. Sam agrees to make a bracelet for him (from impression made at Cazanoux house earlier in the day).

- Gabriel can enter the priest's box in the confessional to get the white collar. Gabriel can listen to some confessions, and give funny responses.
- A sinister musical tone plays over Lorelei's fortune when she discusses the dark forces and Gabriel's life forking. She knocks over her chair. She doesn't come back on Day 3 however.
- Gabriel gets impression from Cazanoux, but does not go anywhere with it, and returns home to meet Malia at end of Day.
- Gabriel receives phone list from Grace.
- Gabriel head to Police Station to see interrogation of Crash. Mosely asked for his badge to be returned after the interrogation (rather than before).
- Gabriel returned to Jackson Square to get veve from Max. Interacts with Madame Lorelei (who speaks with a Hungarian accent, then Brooklyn). She runs off after giving him a fortune telling.
- He returns to the bookstore. Claiming he is Cazanux's nephew, he discovers her address from Melissa, reads the poetry book he got from Grandma's house, and took time to translate a few bits from it, and had grace translate the rest of the poem.
- Gabriel then traveled to Tulane to listen to the lecture. He learned Hartridge's name from a student outside, and then entered his office, to question him.
- Gabriel finds Cazanoux's house but, decides he can't get in on his charms alone (after seeing three young teenagers who thought he could be her "father").
- He heads to St. Louis Cathedral and stole a few needed items from a ready room in the back, and then back to the bookshop. He got a black shirt and some black shoes out of his closet in the bookshop, and gel.
- Then back to Cazanoux he tricked his way in, and questioned her. He learns about bracelet travels to Ponchetrain to get clay, then back to her house.
- Gabriel returns to bookshop, to find Grace and Bruno talking. Gabriel agrees to sell the painting. Grace had finished translating the poem for him.
- Gabriel travels to Dixieland Drugstore and buys croc mask, and gets lagniappe.
- Gabriel travels to his grandmother, and solves Drei Drachen clock.
- Gabriel travels to the Gedde mansion and talks to Robert learning about Gedde crypt, Gabriel travels there and talks to Malia.

- Gabriel's grandmother leaves a message for him to stop by her house and go through her father's things (this was a message from Day 1 in the original). Gabriel also is given the suggestion to visit the Wright family tomb.
- Gabriel talks to each of his family members, a squirrel breaks a vase at the tomb revealing 20 dollars.
- Wolfgang Ritter calls for the second time, and claims to be a relative of Gabriels. Gabriel can get his phone number (this was on day 3 in the original). Gabriel is not ready to return the call. The phone number is made slightly more complicated by having to dial 011 in front of the number.
- Gabriel learns about Sam Springleton the jeweler from the newspaper for the day, leading him to the Napolean House.
- Gabriel can't buy Willy Jr. from Dixieland Drugstore at first, as Willy tries to raise the price to 120. Gabriel must use $100 from selling painting, and $20 from cemetery vase.
- Jackson Square Overlook finally opens up, allowing Gabriel to spy on Crash.
- In the scene, he doesn't have to move the clock from the chest. The chest has become a close up picture, and all associated animations of him rummaging inside have been removed. A new puzzle involves directly rummaging through items in chest, and moving them to find other items. He finds a key.
- He solves Drei Drachen puzzle, and confirms Wolfgang's identity with Grandma Knight, allowing him to call Wolfgang.
- Gabriel calls Wolfgang, and learns about the Ritter journal.
- Gabriel gives oil to Sam who wins chess game, and offers to make bracelet. He makes it within a 'few hours' and gives it back to Gabriel. With it Gabriel is able to question Crash.
- Unlike in the game, Crash falls on the floor of the church when he dies, startling some of the people who sit there.

- Gabriel visits Moonbeam (oddly she says Dr. John contacted her to tell her he would be visiting, but in this game you learn about Moonbeam from a flyer on an earlier day). Gabriel learns about voodoo code, but she refuses to translate it (not unless the 'ask the loa' machine says he is worthy).
- Gabriel is attacked by snake at the voodoo museum. Dr. John says museum is closed for the day (again odd timing that he would have called Moonbeam earlier that day, since she had been gone for the previous week). Gabriel is able to get snake scales back at the bookstore.
- Three creepy Girls skipping rope appear outside of police station.
- Gabriel talks to Mosely about Crash and Hartridge death. He mentions having seen Crash the day before (in this game he technically saw Crash 2 days before). Gabriel mentions that he talked to Hartridge the day before, however in this game he talked to Hartridge two days before. Gabriel shows evidence, and gets case reopened.
- Gabriel is disoriented in Tulane and has a hard time finding Hartridge's office. When he finds him dead, he leaves frightened without taking any notes with him.
- He retuns to Tulane later, he sees the body has been removed. He looks for notes by Hartridge but finds nothing. He does the pencil shade trick to reveal Hartridge's scribbles on a blank paper.
- Grace finds chicken sacrifice in shop. Letter from Mosely falls through mail slot.
- Gabriel convinces Ralph's cousin the Beignet vendor to move back to outside the Police Statin, to help him better sneak into Mosely's office, or he waits for Frick to dose off. Frick shoes him away after he leaves the office with the tracking devices.
- Gabriel learns about conclave from rada drums in park.
- Gabriel puts tracking device in Sekey Madoule in museum and writes a message in cemetery to have it sent to conclave.
- Gabriel has grace paint a green snake with red mouth on his chest (this is done with ingame animated sprites).
- Gabriel uses tracker to get to conclave. Tracker is in lower right corner of screen.
- Gabriel uses mask to enter conclave. Conclave has its own background, with many animated characters on screen each wearing a different mask or different action. Gabriel finds trackers. New comic-style cutscene shows Gabriel seeing possessed police officers in the two-way mirror. He escapes and sees possessed girls playing with dead crow.
- Gabriel refuses to go back to the police station from the map after what he witnessed, rendering the police station inaccessible for the rest of the game.
- Gabriel finds Lorelei in the Jackson Square who gives a warning.
- Cazanoux leaves town and Moonbeam goes on a channeling seminar (blocking off those locations).

- Gabriel calls Wolfgang in Germany after being woken up by Grace, and questions him. They discuss several things, and Gabriel points out that Tetelo's remains maybe in Benin in Africa.
- Gabriel finds Gedde tomb open. Gabriel hears a crash and finds it dark inside. He can't read any of the name plaques, except for the one marked with a veve, except when opening close-ups of each individual crypt. He finds mosely inside of it, but is knocked out. He finds Mosely's wallet inside of the veve grave.
- Voodoo Museum and Dixieland Drugstore are closed. Hartridge's office is locked (for obvious reasons). Grace has given advice for Gran to leave town to protect her.
- Grace is worried when he returns.
- Gabriel calls travel agency (one of the specials is to fly to India). He chooses to fly to Germany.
- Germany is suffering from unusual weather and is snowing. Gabriel will discuss the cold weather with Gerde, and she will point out that it is not normal for june (with the implication that this may be supernatural in nature).
- Gerde is wearing traditional german maid outfit, and is preparing dinner (peeling potatoes).
- Gabriel washes hand in snow outside window on the window sill.
- The parchment is openly exposed in the picture frame, easy for Gabriel to take.

- Gabriel finds Veve drawer locked. He finds an ossuary with a puzzle to help him open the drawer. This is were the 'gedde men' are apparently buried.
- Grandma's house is still open, as is Dixieland Drugstore. Hartridge office is still unlocked. Museum remains closed (and Gabriel refuses to return to police station).
- Gabriel travels to Rittersberg. The Castle outside, and castle inside are based on the castle outside are based on the version of the castle in the second game. It is largely sunny, but has been raining recently (with basically 'normal' weather there is no line from Gabriel or Gerde about unusual weather).
- Gerde is working on paperwork, and is wearing clothes similar to what she wore in GK2.
- Gabriel washes his hands in rainwater off the window sill (instead of snow) for panel one.

- Gabriel can give the archaeology book to Gerde as in the original, but the choices and menus have rearranged a bit.

20th Anniversary EditionEdit
- There are some zoom-ins onto the snake mound and then panning to the right where the jeep comes in, before zooming out. Almost all the west side of the mound is off screen, though the screen scrolls only a tiny bit to the west when he enters the mound.
- The Entrance to the mound has a snake head.
- The Jeep Driver is Caucasian man, with perhaps a cross between eastern European and Brooklyn accent (perhaps Yiddish accent).
- All of the plates are on the ground, the only two on the walls cannot be removed. The locations of the titles on the ground are often in very different locations than found in the original (and usually closer together where two or more are in the same screen). The snake rod is found next to a stone plate on the ground. Snake rod looks to be made from copper.
- Zombies/mummies are encountered.
- While Wolfgang's outfit and hair cut on his model looks similar to his style in GK1 original, in the new closeup images there is no indication of his pony tail.
- Gabriel is still ordered to get a heart from a zombie in the next room. But in this game inner wheel is actually a single scrolling room.

- In the game, the staff is found on the ground. Here the staff is held by one of the clay figures.

- Gabriel and Mosely enter the backroom to talk. There is animation for both characters opening up the partian and closing it behind them.

- The bedroom has a single bed, almost hospital like. Gabriel can open up the doorway to look in the bathroom. Then he decides there is nothing interesting in the bathroom.
- The animal cage room has many things to look at but is mostly useless.
- Gabriel places the talisman around Grace's neck to wake her, the animation looks mostly realistic.
- Gabriel has to give the costume to Mosely, and then physically put on his own as well. If he waits too long Dr. John will enter either before either put on costumes, or before Gabriel can put on his costume, or after both put on costumes. Dr. John is shown to enter the room and tells them to leave for the ritual room on screen.
- Once in the ritual room, the game switches between snippets of artistic comic style cutscenes for closeups, and wide shots of the entire ritual where various revelers can be seen. It switches out to show Tetelo's dance, and that she is ridden, and Dr. John handing her the chickens. Which she dances in the veve with. Most of the scenes up to her stabbing grace are also done ingame, with lots of extra background animations going on in the background. There is a brief close up shortly before she sends everyone out of the room.
- Gabriel uses the talisman on Tetalo to get her attention, Grace gets up and uses her tai chi to escape, and Mosely shoots Dr. John, and he falls onto the ritual table. This is all done via ingame sprites and graphics with very few closeups.
- Gabriel destroying the statue is done ingame animation, as is much of the destruction of the ritual room. There are close ups comic style cutscenes for Tetelo/Malia falling into the crevasse (and whatever choice Gabriel chooses to make).
- Malia is shown to have slashed Gabriel's arm three times, like the claws of a wolf.
- The ending is done with a static screen with survivors overlooking Jackson Square and talking to each other.

- The cutscene showing Jackson Square is a bit different. Gabriel automatically heads back to the shop.
- The letter is on the desk, but Gabriel is less animated, doesn't jump back, and Mosely just walks into the room from an already opened partition. His arms are at his side, and, very little animation beyond his head moving when he speaks.
- Both walk into the backroom but the partition is already open, and very little animation as they walk past it through the doorway.
- Gabriel hands Mosely his wallet from a conversation choice during the discussion. Gabriel also hands over the tracker during the discussion rather than after.
- Gabriel can recall the elevator back from the chapel, and enter the confessional at any time.
- The artwork is different, and there is more of it scattered around the outer ring of the hounfour (mostly carvings, masks or shields) along the inner wall. But none of the veve artwork, and no pots. This somewhat makes it more difficult to remember rooms.
- The hallway panel between the two circles is more obvious in the remake.
- The signs around the outer circle look like litup versions of the snake mound stone plates (in the original they were said to be images of snakes but looked more like red blocks increasing in number).
- Gabriel will automatically enter a room by interacting on the doors.
- The supply room is now a closeup from the outer ring, bright has lots of shelves, and is less cluttered. However only the two masks and the robes can be examined or interacted with. Gabriel automatically picks up both robes. He won't enter the room again after getting all the items.
- The empty bedroom has a queen sized bed, and looks more like a regular bed. Gabriel won't open the bathroom door, saying he went before he left. There is an veve on the wall outside of the bedroom than can be examined. There is no veve outside the room.
- Gabriel comments about how it stinks inside the animal cage room.
- Gabriel only picks up one keycard instead of two.
- Gabriel places keycard on Grace's belly rather than around her neck. The chain doesn't even move, and stands up in the air as he picks it up, defying gravity (very little animation used, and a bit unrealistic).
- Gabriel has to physically combine the mask and robes together to make the disguises.
- As soon as Gabriel gives the disguise to Mosely, it switches to a comic style cutscene, and Gabriel puts on his own disguise as well. The cutscene continues with Dr. John entering the room, and then both being told to enter the ritual room (these scenes were all done with ingame sprites, and animation in the original). The fact that this scene has been replaced with mostly an on rails cutscene, means that one of the two different deaths is removed from the game (the one with Mosely dressed, and Gabriel lacking a costume, though theoretically the second death could be achieved by not picking up the second costume head out of the storage room).
- The entire ritual sequence is also done in comic book style as well, up to the point that Tetelo raises knife about Grace. These scenes although offering closeups of the rituals offer far less animation than the original scene (its harder to make out the actions and the dance being done which in the original were done in-game between smaller snippets of comic closeups.)
- When Gabriel uses the talisman to get Tetelo's attention, the game switches to comic style closeups for the next few actions. This means limited animation used. One can barely see Grace roll away, but no evidence of her tai chi training. There is a close up Mosely's gun hand, and Dr. John being hit, and then next thing you know he's on the ritual table.
- The destruction of the gedde statue is done in comic style cutscenes (limited animation), as is the breaking up of the ritual room, and most scenes after that.
- Malia appears to only cut Gabriel once on his arm in the comic style cutscene (rather than three slashes).
- The ending cutscenes are also done in comic style (mostly no animation), replacing the static scene of the characters backs from the original.
- There is no note left for Gabriel when he enters the bookshop.
- Unlike in the game, the church is not empty but has a few people. Gabriel spends some tie looking for the entrance to the hounfour, including checking some doors and ascending to the organ loft. He observes different people coming from and going to the confessionals before getting suspicious.
- The key knothole is hidden behind the seat of the confessional.
- The mechanism opens a door revealing a stair leading down to the hounfour.
- Gabriel leaves a hasty note for Mosely.
- When Gabriel enters Dr. John's room, his back is to the door.
- Office rooms 4 and 5 are connected with an open archway. In the game they are office rooms, but separate.
- Unlike the game, Gabriel steals two animal masks from the storage room, without the cloaks. Unlike the game, they are hooded, not stuffed heads. Only later Gabriel and Mosely enter the storage room again to take the cloaks.
- The participants of the ceremony are about 30.
- The chasm opens at the spot of the altar and tilts the whole floor.
- There is a brief moment where Gunter's spirit surfaces through Gabriel, allowing a hint of redemption for himself and Tetelo.
